Thank-you for your interest in my quilted pet portraits. I welcome commissions so if you are interested in having a special quilted pet portrait made for yourself or for a special gift, please contact me to discuss your needs.

About My Method

Each quilted portrait begins with a good quality photo of your pet.  After carefully observing the light and dark areas of the photo, I make a pattern from your photo. I select a variety of 100% cotton fabrics and then construct the portrait using a fabric collage technique. The background is carefully chosen to enhance the portrait and after layering it with batting and backing, it is quilted. The portrait is then machine quilted onto the background with colour-matched threads. Edges are finished with a facing for a professional look. Each portrait comes with a sleeve on the back for hanging.

Prices range from $300 to $400 based on the size and the complexity of the construction and quilting. Payment is made using a Paypal account or a major credit card after we’ve agreed on the price and the details for the portrait. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required before I begin working on your portrait.

How it works

You send me a good quality photo of your pet (i.e. high resolution with varying levels of light and dark areas) and after we establish the level of detail and portrait size, I will make a quilted portrait of your pet based on your photo. You can choose the colour for your pet’s portrait (realistic or any other colour). I’ll send photos to show you how the work is progressing as it is under construction. The entire process can take up to 6 weeks to complete.

When the portrait is complete and ready for shipping, I will give you a quote for the shipping costs and the rest of the payment plus shipping will be due. I’ll ship the completed portrait to you as soon as I receive your full payment.

I was looking to get a pet portrait of a black Labrador and a second one as two ginger cats. Would you be able to give me a rough estimate please?

      Hi Hazel,

Thank you for your inquiry about having a couple of portraits done. The price I charge for a portrait is $300 – $400 for one animal. If there are two pets in the same photo, it will be a little more. I will need to see your photos before giving you a clear quote but if you’d like to proceed with this, I should tell you that I wouldn’t be able to start on it until the end of January as I have another commission I am about to start in December. Sorry to disappoint you if you’d hoped to have it for Christmas.

A great quilted portrait starts with a clear photo with sufficient light & shadow on the subject, so that’s something to consider. If you’d like to send your photos, I can tell you whether or not they will work. I could also send you a couple of examples to show you what I mean by a great photo.
